Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners sells Bayonne Energy Center to Jupiter Energy Investor
Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners (MSIP), through its private infrastructure investment platform, agreed to sell its 100% ownership stake in Thermal Bayonne Holdings—the operator of the Bayonne Energy Center—to Jupiter Energy Investor for an undisclosed sum. The 660-megawatt dual-fuel generating facility in Bayonne, New Jersey, supplies electricity, capacity, and ancillary services exclusively to New York City via a dedicated subsea cable system, serving NYISO Zone J, one of 11 load zones in New York’s bulk power grid. Commissioned in 2012, the plant includes 10 simple-cycle aeroderivative gas turbines designed for rapid start-up and peaking operations to meet fluctuating demand in the five boroughs. MSIP acquired the facility in 2018 and has since managed it through its power asset management platform, TigerGenCo, which oversees operational performance and market participation. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, with Jefferies LLC serving as lead financial advisor to MSIP.
