NANO Nuclear partners with Fortil to design fuel handling and storage system for KRONOS microreactor

Type: Partnership · Technology: Nuclear · Country: United States · Announced: 2026-08-04

NANO Nuclear announced a partnership with Fortil to design the Fuel Handling & Storage System for its KRONOS MMR nuclear microreactor. The system will support safe handling, storage, and management of high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) fuel throughout reactor operations. Fortil, headquartered in La Seyne-sur-Mer, France, will provide multidisciplinary engineering covering mechanical, systems, nuclear safety, instrumentation, control, and radiation protection. The collaboration leverages Fortil’s experience delivering similar projects, strengthening the technical foundation of the KRONOS program as the United States pursues advanced nuclear capacity. The conceptual design phase is reported to be near completion in 2026, positioning the KRONOS MMR for subsequent commercialization. No financial terms were disclosed and no advisors were named.
