Naqaa Sustainable Energy LLC to design, finance, construct, and operate 500 MW solar project with battery storage in Botswana

Oman’s Naqaa Sustainable Energy LLC, a subsidiary of state-owned renewable energy company O-Green, was selected to design, finance, construct, and operate a 500 MW solar project with battery storage in the town of Maun, Botswana. The project, located in northwestern Botswana, is expected to have a minimum operational life of 25 years and will be inaugurated with a groundbreaking ceremony on April 16, 2026. President Duma Boko of Botswana announced the agreement with Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, emphasizing the project’s role in securing the country’s energy future and unlocking long-term economic value. Botswana currently operates 181.5 MW of solar capacity and aims to increase renewable energy’s share to 50% of its national energy mix by 2030, up from around 8% today. The Maun Solar Project represents a material step toward achieving this target while diversifying the country’s energy sources.
