NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced at the NATO summit in Ankara, Türkiye, that NATO will initiate formal negotiations with Saab for the potential acquisition of up to ten GlobalEye Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) systems. The GlobalEye is a multi-role airborne early warning and control aircraft designed for long-range surveillance and command-and-control missions. This deal represents NATO's strategic investment in enhancing its airborne surveillance capabilities amid evolving security challenges. The negotiations will focus on the terms of the acquisition, including delivery timelines and technical specifications. The GlobalEye system is already operational with the Swedish Air Force and has been selected by multiple international customers, including the United Arab Emirates.
