Neoen Australia launches construction of 215 MW / 963 MWh battery energy storage system at Culcairn Solar Farm, with NHOA Energy and a Bouygues Construction Australia-Equans Solar and Storage joint venture as contractors

Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Hybrid · Country: Australia · Capacity: 215 MW · Announced: 2026-06-30

Neoen Australia has commenced construction of a 215 MW / 963 MWh battery energy storage system at its 350 MW Culcairn Solar Farm in New South Wales, transforming it into a hybrid facility. The battery will share the same transmission network connection point as the solar farm, enabling direct energy storage from the solar array. Italy-headquartered NHOA Energy and a joint venture between French-owned Bouygues Construction Australia and Equans Solar and Storage have been awarded the construction contract for the battery. The project is expected to take approximately two years to complete, creating about 160 jobs. This battery, which has expanded from an initial 100 MW / 200 MWh proposal, will support grid reliability and stability in the National Electricity Market and contribute to the NSW government's Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap.
