NextEnergy UK acquires 107MW/151MWh standalone BESS portfolio in the UK from Eku Energy
Type: Acquisition · Technology: Storage · Country: United Kingdom · Capacity: 107 MW · Announced: 2026-08-05
NextEnergy UK completed the acquisition of a 107MW/151MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) portfolio in the UK from Eku Energy for an undisclosed sum. The portfolio includes three operational projects in southeast England: Maldon (40MW/40MWh) already in commercial operation, and Loudwater (39MW/55MWh) and Basildon (28MW/56MWh), which completed commissioning work on August 5, 2026. All projects secured Capacity Market contracts and established routes to market, ensuring immediate revenue generation. The transaction aligns with NextEnergy UK's strategic shift toward expanding its BESS portfolio, targeting 30% of gross asset value from energy storage projects. NHOA Energy, the original developer of Loudwater and Basildon, will continue providing operations and maintenance services post-acquisition.
