Nextpower acquires Origami Solar and ramps up steel frame production for US solar module manufacturers
Type: Acquisition · Technology: Solar · Country: United States · Announced: 2026-09-02
Nextpower, a US-based solar infrastructure company, acquired Origami Solar, a steel frame producer, in 2025 to accelerate the rollout of its NX CoreFrame steel module frames. The acquisition positions Nextpower to meet growing demand from US module manufacturers for stronger, locally produced frame alternatives to aluminum. The company is already supplying steel frames to several US module manufacturers under multi-year, gigawatt-scale agreements. Nextpower’s steel frames are designed as drop-in replacements for aluminum frames, requiring no process changes in existing manufacturing lines. The steel frames are coated with a zinc-aluminum-magnesium anti-corrosion product to address durability concerns in high-risk corrosion environments.
