Nokia wins upgrade contract for MCT subsea cable from Symphony Communication

Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Telecom · Country: Thailand · Announced: 2026-06-17

Nokia secured a supply agreement with Symphony Communication Public Company Limited to upgrade the Malaysia‑Cambodia‑Thailand (MCT) subsea cable system. The upgrade will replace legacy equipment with Nokia’s Submarine Line Terminal Equipment and sixth‑generation Photonic Service Engines, boosting capacity to up to 30 Tbps per fiber pair, three times the previous capability. The MCT cable lands in Rayong, Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor, and the enhanced low‑latency link will support AI inference, cloud bursting and mission‑critical enterprise applications across Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. The project aligns with Thailand’s emergence as a regional digital‑infrastructure hub, which has attracted more than USD 23 billion in data‑center investment across 36 projects, according to the Board of Investment. Nokia’s solution also cuts network power consumption by 60%, contributing to the subsea operator’s sustainability goals while delivering higher capacity and long‑term scalability. The contract was announced on 17 June 2026 and will be executed under Nokia’s WaveSuite automation platform, with no additional advisors disclosed.
