Nozomi Energy achieves financial close on 50MW/196MWh battery energy storage system in Japan

Type: Financing · Technology: Storage · Country: Japan · Capacity: 50 MW · Announced: 2026-09-14

Nozomi Energy, a Japanese renewable-energy platform backed by Actis, reached financial close for the Nozu Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), a 50-megawatt/196-megawatt-hour project in Nishihata, Nozu Town, Japan. The company secured nonrecourse project financing from Aozora Bank, with construction expected to begin immediately and completion scheduled for third quarter 2028. The project was awarded under Japan's FY2023 Long-Term Decarbonization Auction and benefits from a 20-year consumer price index-linked capacity payment. Beyond Nozu, Nozomi Energy is expanding its BESS pipeline alongside solar and onshore wind development. The transaction represents another milestone in the company's strategy to develop, finance and operate critical infrastructure supporting Japan's power system resilience and decarbonization goals.
