Nscale acquires Monarch Compute Campus and signs 1.35GW AI compute agreement with Microsoft using NVIDIA Vera Rubin GPUs
Type: Acquisition · Technology: Data Center · Country: United States · Capacity: 8000 MW · Announced: 2026-03-16
Nscale acquired the Monarch Compute Campus in Mason County, West Virginia, from American Intelligence & Power Corporation (AIPCorp), a company sponsored by Fidelis New Energy and 8090 Industries, for an undisclosed sum. The 2,250-acre campus includes America’s first state-certified AI microgrid with scalable power capacity up to 8GW, positioning Nscale to deploy one of the world’s largest AI compute facilities. Nscale also signed a letter of intent with Microsoft to provide 1.35GW of AI compute capacity using NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 GPUs, with deployments beginning in late 2027 across multiple tranches. The collaboration leverages NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin DSX AI Factory reference design, enabling industrial-scale AI training and inference infrastructure. The project will operate independently of the local grid via an onsite microgrid, eliminating burden on utility customers and incorporating carbon sequestration to offset emissions. Nscale’s acquisition and Microsoft’s commitment underscore the strategic importance of hyperscale AI infrastructure in meeting surging global demand.
