Nuveen Energy Infrastructure Credit (EIC) closed a $546 million preferred equity investment in SunZia, the largest renewable-energy infrastructure project in U.S. history, through its infrastructure credit platform. The project, developed by Pattern Energy, combines a 3,650-megawatt wind farm with a 550-mile high-voltage direct current transmission line spanning from New Mexico to Arizona, delivering power to the western U.S. grid. At full capacity, SunZia generates enough electricity to power approximately 1 million American homes annually, exceeding the output of the Hoover Dam. The investment represents Nuveen EIC’s largest preferred tax equity allocation to date and anchors its new preferred investment strategy aimed at financing critical energy infrastructure. Nuveen and co-investors committed a total of $1.5 billion across four investments to support the project’s development.
