Type: Investment · Technology: Data Center · Country: United States · Value: $3B · Announced: 2026-08-17

Nvidia is in advanced talks to invest up to $3 billion in SB Energy, a SoftBank-backed data center developer, to support the construction of an up to 10GW data center campus in Pike County, Ohio. The investment would be part of a broader $100 billion credit support package for the Ohio campus, which could cost an estimated $500 billion if fully developed. Nvidia plans to invest $1.5 billion at the signing of the Ohio data center deal and another $1.5 billion as part of SB Energy's planned initial public offering, with SB Energy intending to file for an IPO as reported in May 2026. The first phase of the data center is expected to begin operations in 2028 at 800MW capacity, with ground broken on the project in March 2026. OpenAI, which is also an investor in SB Energy, would utilize Nvidia hardware at the site, and Nvidia would provide a financial guarantee for OpenAI's lease and future project financing.
