Octopus Australia partners with Habitat Energy to optimise 380 MW solar and 307 MW battery projects in Australia

Octopus Australia appointed Habitat Energy to provide optimisation and trading services for two renewable energy projects totaling 380 MW of solar generation and 307 MW of battery storage. The Fulham project in Victoria’s Gippsland region includes an 80 MW solar farm paired with a 64 MW/128 MWh battery, slated to start operations in 2027. The Blind Creek project in southern New South Wales consists of a 300 MW solar farm and a 243 MW/486 MWh battery, expected to be operational in 2028. Both sites will use DC‑coupled technology that connects the batteries directly to the solar arrays to reduce losses and enable mid‑day storage. Octopus aims to create firm, dispatchable power that can compete with coal‑generated electricity, while Habitat will apply its algorithmic forecasting and digital‑twin tools to maximise market value. Habitat’s role is supported by its parent Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, highlighting the growing demand for integrated optimisation in Australia’s transitioning electricity system.
