Octopus Energy Generation and ZE Energy invest in Sessa Aurunca battery energy storage project in Italy
Type: Investment · Technology: Storage · Country: Italy · Capacity: 98.5 MW · Announced: 2026-06-16
Octopus Energy Generation and ZE Energy jointly invested in the 98.5 MW / 895 MWh Sessa Aurunca battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Campania, Italy, through the Sky fund managed by Octopus Energy Generation. The project, developed by ZE Energy, secured a 15-year contract via Italy’s MACSE energy storage auction scheme administered by transmission system operator Terna, accounting for 42% of the capacity awarded in the region. Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2026, with commercial operation expected in 2028. The facility will connect to a local substation, creating an energy hub to enhance grid flexibility and support renewable energy integration. The investment aligns with Octopus Energy Generation’s 2030 strategic plan, which targets over 2 GW of battery storage, solar PV, wind, and commercial rooftop solar projects under development in Italy.
