Onego Bio forms partnership with Zen Waffles

Onego Bio formed a commercial partnership with Zen Waffles to supply its Bioalbumen ingredient for use in Zen Waffles' high-protein waffles, the companies announced on Sept. 25, 2026. The agreement covers Zen Waffles' product line sold in varieties including classic, chocolate chip, blueberry, coconut and white chocolate strawberry and incorporates Bioalbumen as a non-animal egg protein alternative. Onego Bio's Bioalbumen, produced via precision fermentation using Trichoderma reesei, was granted GRAS status by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2025, which underpins its commercial use in Zen Waffles' formulations. The deal enables Zen Waffles, a New York manufacturer, to maintain product structure and browning while offering higher protein content (23–28 grams per product) using a non-animal ingredient. No financial terms, volumes, or exclusive-supply commitments were disclosed in the announcement.
