Optimal Transit and InMar Technologies form joint venture to develop Kraaken floating data centers

Optimal Transit, a joint venture between naval systems developer InMar Technologies and power technology firm OptiFuel, was formed to develop the Kraaken range of floating data centers. The partnership combines InMar Technologies' marine engineering expertise with OptiFuel's energy systems to create self-powered data centers capable of generating up to 100MW of compute capacity. The Kraaken design integrates a patented Digital Ocean Thermal (DOT) engine that generates continuous electrical power by combining ocean thermal energy with data center waste heat, eliminating reliance on grid energy. The vessels are based on small waterplane area twin-hull blueprints for stability and can operate either moored offshore or independently at sea with propulsion speeds up to 16 knots. The 100MW system is claimed to cost less than $500 million, significantly undercutting land-based alternatives priced at $900m-$1.5bn.
