Ormat Nevada Inc secures BLM approval to develop 60 MW Pearl geothermal project in Nevada with 29-mile transmission line
Type: Development · Technology: Geothermal · Country: United States · Capacity: 60 MW · Announced: 2026-07-05
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) granted final approval for Ormat Nevada Inc to proceed with the 60 MW Pearl geothermal energy project in Esmeralda County, Nevada, marking a critical regulatory milestone for geothermal development on federal lands. The project will consist of a 30-megawatt air-cooled binary geothermal power plant, along with associated wells and facilities, plus a 29-mile, 120-kilovolt electrical transmission line to connect the facility to the grid. Once operational, the Pearl project is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately 50,000 homes, contributing to Nevada’s annual $2 billion geothermal economy. Ormat Nevada Inc, a subsidiary of Ormat Technologies, will now finalize permitting with BLM before starting construction under emergency permitting procedures. The project underscores Nevada’s position as the second-largest geothermal-producing state in the U.S., with 32 existing power plants and material untapped potential for clean energy expansion.
