Off-grid power specialist Pacific Energy has signed a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Perth-based gold and nickel developer Rox Resources to supply power to the miner’s Youanmi gold project in remote Western Australia. Under the agreement, Pacific will design, build, own and operate an off-grid power station incorporating solar PV, battery energy storage and thermal generation. The hybrid plant will combine a 25 MW solar farm and a 9.3 MVA battery energy storage system, along with 11 kV power distribution to the underground feeders and mine village. The system will also include 25 MW of gas generation with provisions for 2 MW of backup diesel. Pacific has already begun mobilisation to site with Rox’s development schedule directed towards first gold in mid-2027, with the planned power infrastructure covering the full Youanmi operation from the camp, to the mine to the mill.
