Perimeter Compute has launched as a new AI cloud provider focused on deploying GPUs at the Edge by utilizing spare energy capacity in commercial office buildings across major US cities. The company plans to install compute infrastructure in basements and mechanical rooms of these buildings, which have between 500kW and 20MW of available power. This approach aims to provide a faster alternative to traditional data center builds, enabling companies to access inference compute in weeks rather than years. Perimeter Compute partners directly with real estate owners and operators to create value and deploy inference hubs capable of running large AI models.
