Peru's Autoridad Portuaria Nacional (APN), under the Ministerio de Transportes y Comunicaciones (MTC), granted port authorization to Horizonte de Verano for the development of Peru's first green hydrogen terminal project. The $540 million infrastructure will be located in Arequipa and is expected to commence operations by late 2029. The project includes a 5.85 GWp solar photovoltaic plant across five phases in La Joya/San José, alongside a desalination plant to supply water for hydrogen production. The terminal will feature two monobuoy berths, subsea pipelines, and a maritime terminal with cryogenic ammonia storage tanks designed to serve tanker vessels.
