Type: Financing · Technology: Agriculture · Country: United States · Value: $35M · Announced: 2026-08-06
Plantible Foods, a startup extracting RuBisCO protein from duckweed for food applications, secured $35 million in combined debt and equity financing to expand production capacity at its Eldorado, Texas facility. The financing package includes a $25 million loan from X-Caliber Rural Capital via the USDA’s Business & Industry Loan Guarantee Program and $10 million in equity from RA Capital and other existing investors. The funds will enable Plantible to increase annual production capacity for its 'Rubi protein' five-fold to over 1,000 metric tons, fulfilling existing customer orders and entering new markets. The company recently installed an upgraded protein filtration system and introduced a proprietary duckweed strain that boosts protein yield by over 40%, improving two key metrics: RuBisCO derived per ton of biomass and per acre per year. Plantible has long-term offtake agreements in place and operates with a modular expansion model, with new greenhouses coming online weekly and construction expected to complete in early 2027.
