PLT Holding's Innovazione Agrisolare secures environmental approval for 181 MW agrivoltaic project in Sicily

Type: Development · Technology: Agriculture · Country: Italy · Capacity: 181 MW · Announced: 2026-08-07

PLT Energia's subsidiary Innovazione Agrisolare Srl received a positive environmental impact assessment (VIA) from Italy's Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (Mase) for an 181 MW agrivoltaic project in the municipalities of Castel di Iudica and Ramacca in Catania province, Sicily. The project, approved under decree n. 502/2026, marks a material expansion for PLT Energia's renewable energy portfolio in southern Italy. Agrivoltaics combines agricultural production with solar power generation, allowing dual land use while contributing to Italy's renewable energy targets. The approval follows a broader trend of accelerated permitting for solar projects in Italy, with 13 positive VIAs totaling 1 GW published in July 2026 alone. PLT Energia, through its Innovazione Agrisolare platform, continues to scale its agrivoltaic pipeline in Sicily, leveraging favorable regulatory conditions and land availability.
