Port of Blyth secures £100M Battleship Wharf Expansion financing with Northumberland County Council and North East Combined Authority

Type: Financing · Technology: Offshore Wind · Country: United Kingdom · Value: $100M · Announced: 2026-05-07

The Port of Blyth secured £100 million in financing for its Battleship Wharf Expansion project, a transformative infrastructure investment designed to enhance the port's capacity for clean energy operations. The early development phase received £275,000 in match funding from Port of Blyth, Northumberland County Council, and the North East Combined Authority, alongside a £275,000 grant from The Crown Estate's £50 million Supply Chain Accelerator fund. The expansion will create approximately three hectares of reclaimed land and extend the quay by up to 260 meters, including rock revetment and deepening of channels and berths to accommodate larger vessels. These upgrades will enable the port to handle next-generation offshore wind components and support larger offshore energy projects, reinforcing its role as a key hub in the UK's clean energy transition. The project is expected to generate hundreds of new jobs and attract clean energy manufacturers to the North East region. Martin Lawlor OBE, Chief Executive of the Port of Blyth, emphasized the infrastructure's critical role in supporting the next generation of offshore wind and clean energy projects.
