Type: Investment · Technology: Solar · Country: Montenegro · Capacity: 250 MW · Value: EUR 150M · Announced: 2026-06-16
French renewable energy developer Qair committed to investing €150 million in renewable energy projects totaling 250 MW in Montenegro, as announced during President Emmanuel Macron's state visit on June 4-5, 2026. The investment aligns with a 2025 intergovernmental agreement between France and Montenegro to strengthen economic cooperation, particularly in renewable energy, to support the country's EU accession process. Qair has already partnered with Montenegro's state-controlled utility EPCG, signing a memorandum of understanding in 2024 to accelerate green electricity production and meet EU standards. The projects will leverage Montenegro's strategic position in Southeast Europe, including the planned submarine cable to Italy and potential grid expansion across the Balkans. Qair views Montenegro as a key partner for renewable energy development in the region, with EU accession prospects and regional connectivity driving long-term growth opportunities.
