Reach Subsea's Reach Remote 1 receives approval to operate entirely remotely without a support vessel

Type: Partnership · Technology: Offshore Wind · Country: Norway, United Kingdom · Announced: 2026-08-13

Reach Subsea's Reach Remote 1 autonomous vessel received regulatory approval from Norway's NMA and the UK's MCA in June 2026 to operate entirely remotely without a support vessel. The USV was subsequently contracted by Equinor on behalf of state-owned Gassco in February 2026 to inspect approximately 3,500 kilometers of subsea pipelines in Norway and along export routes to Denmark, Germany, and the UK. This milestone demonstrates the commercial viability of fully autonomous inspection operations in the North Sea. The vessel's ability to operate without a support vessel reduces operational costs and exposure to marine hazards while maintaining high safety standards.
