Red Eléctrica contracts NKT to supply and install submarine power cables for the Spain‑France interconnection

Red Eléctrica signed a supply agreement with Danish cable manufacturer NKT to provide and install four high‑voltage submarine power cables and associated fiber‑optic links for the Spain‑France interconnection. The first 65‑km segment will be laid from Lemoiz using the NKT Victoria vessel, reaching depths of up to 140 m. The full project includes 276 km of submarine cable and a 27 km land segment in France, boosting interconnection capacity from 2,800 MW to 5,000 MW. The deal supports the EU’s goal of greater renewable integration and enhances supply security for both countries. The contract was announced on 3 August 2026 as the project entered its first installation campaign.
