Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and Meta Platforms announced a partnership to develop a 168 MW AI-enabled data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, marking Meta’s first built-to-suit data centre capacity in India. The facility will be powered entirely by renewable energy and cooled using desalinated seawater, with RIL providing end-to-end services including design, construction, utilities management, renewable power supply, and network connectivity. The project is expected to be completed within two years, with provisions for future expansion, and will support Meta’s global AI compute infrastructure. The strategic location in Jamnagar offers proximity to India’s western submarine cable landing stations and Jio’s extensive fibre network, enhancing connectivity for hyperscale operations. Mukesh D. Ambani, RIL’s chairman and managing director, highlighted the project as a landmark for India’s role in the global AI revolution, while Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasized the deepening investment in India’s digital economy.
