REV Renewables commissions 125 MW / 1,000 MWh Tumbleweed Energy Storage facility and signs storage service agreement with California Community Power
Type: Ppa · Technology: Storage · Country: United States · Capacity: 125 MW · Announced: 2026-06-18
REV Renewables commissioned the 125 MW, 1,000 MWh Tumbleweed Energy Storage facility in Kern County, California, and signed a long‑duration storage service agreement with California Community Power. The project, built by Mortenson, provides eight‑hour battery capacity to serve eight community‑choice aggregators across northern California. Ava Community Energy was added as an additional offtaker, expanding the facility’s customer base to include Alameda and San Joaquin counties. The eight‑hour battery meets the minimum threshold for long‑duration energy storage, enabling renewable solar and wind generation to be dispatched during evening peaks. The California Public Utilities Commission highlighted the project as the state’s first LDES facility, underscoring its role in advancing the state’s renewable‑energy targets.
