Revera Energy closes project financing and issues NTP for Hunterston BESS
Type: Financing · Technology: Storage · Country: United Kingdom · Announced: 2026-09-24
Revera Energy closed non-recourse project financing and issued a notice to proceed (NTP) to construct the 400 MW/800 MWh Hunterston battery energy storage system on 24 September 2026. The Hunterston BESS is located in North Ayrshire, Scotland, roughly 50 km south-west of Glasgow and north of the B6 transmission bottleneck, and is scheduled to begin construction immediately with commercial operations targeted in 3Q28. Sungrow will supply the BESS and provide a long-term service agreement while OCU Group has been appointed as Balance of Plant contractor and long-term O&M provider for the project. Santander, Barclays, Commonwealth Bank of Australia and NatWest provided the non-recourse senior debt financing backing the project, and trading and optimisation will be provided by Danske Commodities and bp, with bp offering a long-term tolling structure and Danske Commodities providing a long-term floor structure. The transaction follows Revera’s June 2026 final investment decision and complements its Windyhill BESS (200 MW/400 MWh) and planned UK portfolio of up to 1 GW/2.8 GWh, supporting UK grid resilience and efforts to unlock transmission capacity between Scottish wind generation and English demand.
