Rivington Energy sells 50 MW Yarnton battery storage project to Schroders Greencoat’s Wessex Gardens fund
Type: Sale · Technology: Storage · Country: United Kingdom · Capacity: 50 MW · Announced: 2026-06-22
Rivington Energy sold the 50 MW Yarnton battery energy storage project in Oxfordshire to Wessex Gardens, the place‑based renewable infrastructure fund managed by Schroders Greencoat. The Yarnton BESS, developed by Renewable Connections, will provide 49.9 MW of export capacity and 40 MW of import capacity on a 1.5‑hectare site that received planning consent in June 2025. Construction is slated to start in 2027 and the asset is expected to operate for up to 40 years, delivering long‑term grid flexibility for the UK power system. The transaction adds a pre‑construction battery storage asset to Schroders Greencoat’s portfolio, expanding its exposure to energy‑transition infrastructure for Local Government Pension Scheme members. Legal counsel was provided by Burges Salmon for Rivington Energy and Acuity Law for Schroders Greencoat, with Matt Tingle, Investment Director at Schroders Greencoat, highlighting the role of storage in supporting the energy transition.
