Rune raises $40 million Series A to build on-site AI data centers at solar facilities

Data center startup Rune secured $40 million in Series A funding led by Spark Capital to construct modular micro data centers directly on-site at operating solar farms. The financing round, which brings the company's total funding to $53.5 million, will be used to secure additional host agreements with solar asset owners and scale its on-site compute footprint for enterprise AI clients. Rune's RELIC (Renewable Energy Linked Intelligent Compute) system connects directly to the solar field's native DC power, bypassing utility grid connections and eliminating AC conversion losses. The company has already deployed an active RELIC installation inside a 200 MW operating solar farm in Texas, running off-grid directly alongside the solar hardware.
