RWE and PPC form 51/49 joint venture Meton Energy S.A. to develop 930 MW solar farms in Western Macedonia, Greece

RWE and PPC created a joint venture, Meton Energy S.A., with RWE holding 51% and PPC 49%, to develop solar projects totaling 930 MWp (884 MWac) in Western Macedonia, Greece. The three photovoltaic clusters includes nine solar farms built on the former Amynteo open‑cast lignite mine and are capable of supplying electricity for over 400,000 Greek households. The JV will also oversee the construction of the Kotyli and Neo Syrakio solar farms, adding another 567 MW (518 MWac) slated for commissioning in 2027. The partnership expands RWE’s renewable footprint in the Balkans while allowing PPC to diversify its generation mix away from coal. No financial terms were disclosed, and the announcement was made in a joint press release without external advisors.
