RWE partners with University of Naples Federico II to monitor agri-PV projects in Italy

Type: Partnership · Technology: Agriculture · Country: Italy · Announced: 2026-07-06

RWE and the Department of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Naples Federico II have launched a three‑year monitoring programme for the Morcone and Acquafredda agri‑PV projects in Italy. The two agri‑PV plants together provide 9.8 MWac and 9.3 MWac of solar capacity, using 32,500 modules mounted on 3‑metre‑high trackers that allow crops to grow beneath the panels. The programme will assess soil health, crop yields, pollinator communities and other ecosystem services across the 13,000‑household‑serving sites. RWE aims to demonstrate that combined agriculture and renewable electricity can optimise land use and support biodiversity, aligning with its 2030 net‑positive biodiversity target. The collaboration involves RWE as the project developer and the university as the research partner, with monitoring activities scheduled to start in 2026 and run through 2029. No financial terms were disclosed, and the partnership is the primary focus of the article.
