RWE has taken a final investment decision to develop a 400 MW / 1,100 MWh lithium-ion battery storage system at its Moerdijk power station in the Netherlands, with commissioning scheduled for Q2 2028. The project will consist of 208 battery containers and connect to the national grid via the existing Moerdijk-Noord substation. Capacity steering agreements with transmission system operator TenneT will enable the battery to dispatch power and reduce grid congestion in Noord-Brabant. The development is part of the system integration plans for RWE and TotalEnergies' 795 MW OranjeWind offshore wind project, alongside electrolysis and smart charging.
