Saipem awarded EPC contract for Neptun Deep offshore gas development in Romania's Black Sea
Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Oil Gas · Country: Romania · Value: $4.6B · Announced: 2026-06-15
Saipem secured an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract from OMV Petrom and Romgaz for the Neptun Deep offshore gas development in Romania's Black Sea, valued at $4.6 billion. The scope includes the fabrication, load-out, and installation of a giant 7,500-tonne jacket structure, which was transported from Saipem's Arbatax yard in Sardinia to the project site. The jacket, standing 135 meters tall with a 50x50 meter base, will support a topside structure currently under construction at Saipem's Karimun yard in Indonesia. Saipem is also responsible for subsea infrastructure at the Domino and Pelican gas fields, located in water depths of 1,000 meters and 125 meters respectively. The project includes the installation of a 160-kilometer, 30-inch gas export pipeline and an associated fiber-optic cable linking offshore facilities to the Romanian coast. Once operational, Neptun Deep is expected to become the European Union's largest offshore natural gas project, significantly boosting Romania's gas production and reducing Europe's reliance on imported energy supplies.
