Saitec Offshore Technologies partners with Mar Ceibe, Instituto Kardala, Kotazero, and Amarradores de Santander to test nature-inclusive design installations on floating wind platform DemoSATH Lab
Type: Partnership · Technology: Offshore Wind · Country: Spain · Announced: 2026-07-09
Saitec Offshore Technologies, through its DemoSATH Lab floating wind demonstrator, partnered with Mar Ceibe, Instituto Kardala, Kotazero, and Amarradores de Santander to install nature-inclusive design (NID) elements and test co-located aquaculture systems. The project integrates biomimetic reef solutions on the submerged sections of the floating wind platform, using shells and mussels to create microhabitats for marine organisms while exploring synergies with aquaculture activities. A multi-trophic aquaculture pilot was launched, cultivating European flat oysters, pullet carpet shell clams, mussels, and Ulva algae alongside the floating offshore wind operations using suspended lantern nets and collector ropes. The offshore installation required coordination between Saitec’s team, support vessels from Amarradores de Santander, and professional divers from Kotazero, with live marine materials supplied by Mar Ceibe and temporary suspension infrastructure provided by Instituto Kardala. The initiative is part of the AQUASATH Project, aiming to assess how floating wind foundations can support marine biodiversity and integrate with aquaculture to enhance ecological and economic outcomes.
