San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) awarded a contract to Fastech and Bosch Rexroth to construct a hydrogen refueling station capable of serving up to 175 fuel cell electric buses (FCEVs) in California. The facility will deploy Bosch Rexroth’s CryoPump technology, marking its first commercial deployment and positioning the hub as the world’s largest bus-focused hydrogen refueling station. Located in San Mateo County, the project supports California’s zero-emission bus fleet goals under state mandates requiring all new bus purchases to be zero-emission by 2029. Fastech will lead the station’s construction and integration, while Bosch Rexroth provides the proprietary CryoPump system for high-efficiency hydrogen compression and dispensing. The hub is expected to become operational by 2027, aligning with SamTrans’ broader fleet electrification timeline.
