Sekisui-led consortium pilots agrivoltaics with film-type perovskite solar over rice paddies

Partnership Solar announced Japan Mar 25, 2026

A Japanese consortium, including Sekisui Solar Film, Terra Inc, Himawari Green Energy, Chiba University, and Chiba Bank, has launched a three-year pilot project for agrivoltaics. The project deploys film-type perovskite solar cells over rice paddies at Chiba University's Kashiwa-no-ha campus to study energy generation alongside crop production. Sekisui Solar Film supplies the perovskite solar cells, Terra Inc manages construction and operations, and Himawari Green Energy will assess business feasibility. Chiba University provides the fields and will evaluate impacts on rice yield, land use, and emissions, while Chiba Bank provides financial support. Chiba University will also purchase the electricity generated by the installation.
