SGB-SMIT to acquire majority stake in Serbian transformer maker Comel Transformatori

SGB-SMIT signed an agreement on July 13 2026 to acquire a majority stake in Comel Transformatori, a Serbian manufacturer of power transformers. The transaction is slated to close in the second half of 2026, giving SGB-SMIT control over Comel's operations in Ripanj near Belgrade. Comel designs, engineers, manufactures and refurbishes transformers and maintains partnerships with firms such as General Electric, ABB and Siemens. By combining SGB-SMIT's global engineering expertise and supply‑chain strength with Comel's regional market presence, the deal creates new growth opportunities across Southeast and Eastern Europe. The partnership also grants Comel access to SGB-SMIT's worldwide customer network and R&D capabilities.
