SGE Bids to Build 14 BWRX-300 SMRs Across the UK in 4.2-GW Fleet Play
Type: Development · Technology: Nuclear · Country: United Kingdom · Capacity: 4.2 GW · Announced: 2026-07-02
Warsaw-based small modular reactor (SMR) developer SGE has unveiled plans to deploy 14 GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) BWRX-300 units across three U.K. sites. The company says the 4.2-GW privately financed fleet could ultimately meet roughly 11% of UK power demand. The plan, announced by SGE on July 2, was submitted as an application under the Advanced Nuclear Framework. This initiative aims to bolster the UK's energy security and decarbonization efforts through advanced nuclear technologies. The deployment of these SMRs represents a material step towards achieving the UK's net-zero targets and diversifying its energy mix.
