Type: Acquisition · Technology: Data Center · Country: Australia · Announced: 2026-09-18

AI cloud firm Sharon AI has acquired the former Visy paper mill site at Ettamogah, north of Albury in New South Wales, for approximately AU$50 million (US$35.6 million). The site, originally built in the 1980s for Australian Newsprint Mills and later operated by Norske Skog, closed in late 2019 and was purchased by Visy in 2020 for AU$85 million to serve as a warehouse and transport depot. Sharon AI plans to repurpose the underutilized brownfield site into a running operation, with Visy continuing as a tenant. The company, which went public earlier in 2026, currently utilizes Equinix in Sydney and NextDC in Melbourne for data center capacity and has 212MW of capacity online or in development.
