Siemens Energy, Neptun Werft, and Smulders consortium awarded 2GW offshore converter platform contract by 50Hertz
Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Offshore Wind · Country: Germany · Capacity: 2 GW · Announced: 2026-06-17
German transmission system operator 50Hertz awarded a contract to a consortium including Siemens Energy, Neptun Werft, and Smulders for the construction of a 2GW offshore converter platform, marking the first such project of this scale in Germany. The platform, weighing approximately 20,000 tonnes, will be built at the former Warnowwerft site in Rostock-Warnemünde, creating hundreds of skilled jobs and revitalizing industrial prospects in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The consortium, comprising German, Belgian, and French firms—Siemens Energy, Neptun Werft (part of Meyer Group), and Smulders (part of Eiffage Group)—was selected to deliver the project, which is expected to be confirmed on June 17, 2026. Stiftung Offshore-Windenergie hailed the deal as a material industrial policy signal, emphasizing Germany’s regained competitiveness in offshore wind energy technologies. The foundation also stressed the need for long-term planning security and updates to Germany’s offshore wind law to address economic viability concerns for projects totaling around 17GW.
