Malaysian real estate developer Sime Darby Property launched the RM1.25 billion ($307.7 million) New Economy Venture fund, achieving full capital commitment at first close with backing from institutional investors including the Employees Provident Fund, Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera, and Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia). Sime Darby Property committed $123.1 million as co-investor and will act as the fund's general partner and sponsor. The fund targets build-to-suit-to-lease data centers and industrial and logistics developments, with construction already underway on two seed assets in the City of Elmina, a township in Sungai Buloh, Selangor. These assets represent 85% of the target fund size and are designed for long-term lease arrangements, with completion expected in the second half of 2027. The initiative aligns with Sime Darby Property's SHIFT32 strategy to diversify into recurring income streams through strategic asset ownership and management.
