SK, GS, and Naver announced a joint investment of approximately 550 trillion won ($352 billion) to construct 8.4 GW of data‑center capacity in South Korea. The first‑phase program will allocate 5 GW to SK, 2.4 GW to GS, and 1 GW to Naver, with construction slated to break ground in the first half of 2028 and phased operation beginning in 2029. The data‑center sites are planned for locations including Ulsan, Donghae, Dangjin, Sejong, and additional sites under review in Daegu‑Gyeongbuk, Honam, Gangwon, and the central region. The investment is part of President Lee Jae Myung’s $919 billion AI‑focused stimulus, aiming to position South Korea at the forefront of the global AI race. The combined funding will be supported by government site‑development assistance, and the projects are expected to multiply the nation’s data‑center capacity sevenfold by 2035.
