SLB and Equinor sign multi-year well stimulation deal with vessel upgrade

Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Oil Gas · Country: Norway · Announced: 2026-08-07

SLB and Equinor executed a multi-year agreement for advanced reservoir stimulation services across the Norwegian Continental Shelf, including a major upgrade of the well stimulation vessel MV Island Captain. The contract provides dedicated stimulation capacity to support the development of tight offshore reservoirs and maximize recovery from future wells. As part of the deal, MV Island Captain will be converted into a fully proppant-capable stimulation vessel with expanded proppant storage, advanced handling systems, increased pumping capacity, and an optimized deck layout. Following the upgrade, the vessel will carry up to two million pounds of proppant, enabling high-intensity offshore stimulation treatments. The agreement builds on a longstanding relationship between Equinor and SLB, with the upgrade representing an important investment in offshore stimulation capability for Norway's resource development.
