SoftBank Corp partners with Cosmos Lab and DeltaX Co to develop and manufacture next-generation zinc-halogen battery cells and energy storage systems in Japan

SoftBank Corp, the telecommunications arm of SoftBank Group, announced a partnership with South Korea-based battery company Cosmos Lab and AI firm DeltaX Co to develop and manufacture next-generation zinc-halogen battery cells and energy storage systems in Japan. The collaboration will focus on scaling production to 1 GWh annually, with manufacturing operations based at SoftBank’s factory in Osaka, Japan. The initiative includes the establishment of two ventures: GX Factory, which will serve as a manufacturing hub for batteries, solar panels, and related products, and AX Factory, which will house an AI data center and AI hardware plant. SoftBank plans to commence battery cell and energy storage system manufacturing at GX Factory from the fiscal year ending March 31, 2028, with a target of achieving mass production at a gigawatt-hour scale by around FY2028.
