Spanish government invests €719 million in AI gigafactory project via SEPI Digital with Banco Santander, ACS, and Telefónica

The Spanish government, through the Ministerio para la Transformación Digital y de la Función Pública and SEPI Digital, authorized a €719 million investment to establish a gigafactory for advanced artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in Spain. The project, named the 'Gigafactoría Europea de IA', will compete for a European Commission grant in an upcoming call, positioning Spain as a key player in Europe's AI industrial landscape. Banco Santander, ACS, and Telefónica will jointly control 47% of the project's capital, each holding 15.67%, while Multiverse Computing will take a 4% stake, collectively reaching 51% private ownership. The Spanish government will hold 47.99% through SEPI Digital, and the Generalitat de Cataluña will initially own 1%.
