SQ Infraestructura secures environmental approval for 80 MW San Simón Solar project with 80 MWh battery storage in Baja California

Type: Development · Technology: Solar · Country: Mexico · Capacity: 80 MW · Announced: 2026-07-06

Mexico's Dirección General de Impacto y Riesgo Ambiental (DGIRA) granted conditional environmental approval to SQ Infraestructura for the 80 MW San Simón Solar project in San Quintín, Baja California. The solar plant will feature 156,000 photovoltaic modules totaling 97.5 MWp, paired with an 80 MW/80 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) using lithium iron phosphate batteries. Energy from the facility will be converted via 260 string inverters and transmitted through a 4,151-meter interconnection line to CFE's San Simón substation at 115 kV. The project occupies 306.17 hectares of private land in Mesa de Agua Chiquita, with an additional 8.29 hectares of right-of-way crossing ejidal parcels. DGIRA's approval, valid for five years for construction and 30 years for operations, includes strict environmental conditions such as conserving 2.12 hectares of coastal scrubland and implementing erosion control measures.
