Statkraft signs supply agreement with Hithium for 14.26 MW battery storage system at Montes de Cierzo wind farm, Spain

Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Storage · Country: Spain · Announced: 2026-07-24

Statkraft signed a supply agreement with Hithium to provide six lithium‑ion battery containers delivering 14.26 MW of power and 28.51 MWh of storage for the repowered Montes de Cierzo wind farm in Tudela, Spain. The battery system will be installed as part of the second phase of the park’s repowering, which replaces 85 old turbines with 14 new‑generation units, raising installed capacity from 60 MW to 90 MW. The project, valued at €4 million, will receive up to 24 % grant support from the Instituto para la Diversificación y Ahorro de la Energía (IDAE). Statkraft’s partnership with Hithium marks the Norwegian utility’s first battery storage deployment in Spain and one of the earliest hybrid wind‑battery installations in the country. The agreement was announced in July 2026, coinciding with Statkraft’s pipeline of eleven additional battery projects totaling over 200 MW across Galicia, Andalucía, Navarra and Extremadura. No advisory or legal firms were disclosed in the announcement.
