Sumitomo Corporation has entered a partnership to acquire an equal 33.33% stake in the Gwynt Glas floating offshore wind project, joining EDF power solutions UK and Ireland and ESB as equal partners. The project, located in the Celtic Sea off the coast of Wales, targets a capacity of up to 1.5 GW and has submitted its Scoping Report to the UK Planning Inspectorate in summer 2026. DP Energy continues to provide critical development support, including early-stage project delivery and local community engagement. Matthieu Hue, CEO of EDF power solutions UK and Ireland, highlighted Sumitomo’s global offshore wind expertise as a key complement to the existing partnership. Jim Dollard, Executive Director at ESB, emphasized the project’s alignment with ESB’s net-zero strategy, noting offshore wind as a cornerstone for achieving carbon neutrality. Jun Minase of Sumitomo Corporation underscored the strategic importance of the UK market and the project’s role in supporting the UK’s Net Zero 2050 ambitions.
